 Precipice is a novel that moves between 1970 and 2000, exploring how the cultural upheaval of the late 1960s continued to shape lives decades later. Set against the backdrop of California’s counterculture and its long aftermath, the story follows characters whose youthful ideals, compromises, and betrayals echo across time, families, and generations.

I wrote Precipice to explore a question that has stayed with me for years: What lasting impact did that era have on who we’ve become? The 60s brought creativity, freedom, and

challenge—but also confusion, broken trust, and moral drift that often went unexamined. This novel looks at both sides honestly, through the lives of characters still living with the consequences.

Writers often write what they know. I was there, and I remember. Precipice is my way of telling a story shaped by that experience—one that examines loss, responsibility, and the possibility of redemption when the past finally demands to be faced.

 In every generation there are those who are not satisfied with dead traditions or misguided hopes for the future. These are the avant-garde of truth seekers who push the envelope and discover new ideas, dreams and visions that mold the future of society.

Bracken Maetrek is one such pioneer. Eager to abandon the laws of the Fathers, whose rule and weapons have brought his planet, Ebbern, to its possible end he has left a sheltered life in his home town of Tizra on a quest for answers. He has decided he must also shake off the powerless creeds of his parents and discover something he can truly believe in. But it’s not only the intriguing places of his homeland that he’s exploring but also worlds beyond his own.

Traveling through dimensional portals, experimenting with psychogenic substances and creating, with the help of his friends a novel brand of music, he discovers forces that he hopes can transform his culture. As he explores these strange new realms he encounters powerful supernatural skills he believes will set his land on a new course.

While many of Braken's generation are content with the status quo, he, his girlfriend Lisha and their companions join an emerging but persecuted movement, working to bring about the transformation of their world and thereby save it from total annihilation.

Staying one step ahead of armed squads of the hated Pirax and dodging bands of outlaws they bring their movement to an encounter with a being from beyond the stars who promises them what they are seeking. But along the way Bracken finds that there are many treacherous ones who move hidden levers of deceit in an attempt to destroy him. Knowing he’s marked for death he must unmask them and finally discover the truth that will save his life and the lives of those he loves.
